  44. After seeing the ads and calling to get the fax, the ACE Communications
  45. AR-2500 wide range receiver is looking pretty good, with computer operation
  46. software and an RS-232 port, not to mention the $450 pricetag.
  47. Has anyone out there bought or seen one?  I have the tech specs, but how does
  48. it really do?  I'm interested in any opinions on the BFO for SSB and how well
  49. that performs, how well it's put together and, of course, any mods.

  106. I had the same problem with 2 F1T's at about the same time, neither one
  107. was used much.  It seemed that pressing the buttons very firmly worked
  108. ok, but pressing lightly caused just was you mentioned, each other's 
  109. functions, so attempting to change the power would start a scan, etc.
  110.  
  111. I called Alinco and talked to a tech, and when I mentioned the problem,
  112. he said that he had never heard of it.  So I told him to try it right
  113. then a few times, and sure enough, by pressing lightly, he was able
  114. to make it happen on each of the four buttons.
  115.  
  116. At the time, I was unwilling to send the radio's in for repair due
  117. to the price he quoted me, so I am just living with it.  I don't
  118. think that it is dirt, Coke, etc. because it happened to both of
  119. these rarly used radios.   I was a bit bummed that Alinco didn't
  120. feel the need to solve the problem.

  141. I replaced a 726 with a 736 and have never regretted it. The 726 is
  142. IMHO the easier to operate, but I called cq on 144.200 with the - 
  143. offset on one time to many. Luckily I never received any pink slips,
  144. but IMHO it would be poor operating practice to have a rig that I tend
  145. to use that way.

  147. If you are looking for an "everything" rig the 736 is it. It has 4 module
  148. slots instead of 3 and the 440 module is the same as the 430 module (on
  149. the 726 it is not). The only disadvantage of the 736 is that the 726 has
  150. an hf (20-30mHz) option. But if you shop around you can get a decent
  151. used hf rig for the cost of the module. (about $250)

  153. The 726 is also very noisy compared to the 736.

  159. The 726 is probably a better sattelite rig, but you will probably need a 
  160. seperate fm rig if you want to work repeaters. One that you can program 
  161. the offsets into.

  163. If I only did sat or ssb/cw I would go for a 726.  Unfortuantely, I
  164. spend 90% of my on the air time on 2m fm. So for me the 736 was the
  165. better radio.

  177. and may actually have them in stock. Around here there was a flurry of 726
  178. activity as several of us upgraded to 736's within 2 or 3 months. There

  180. have not seen a used 726 or module for sale since sept.

  208. I have never heard of such a thing.  You will need a terminal node 
  209. controller and radio for packet.  Any modem should work for connections 
  210. to other computers through the phone line.

  253. for Xmas. She is now promising to buy me a power tool for more Honey-Do's.
  254. ANYTHING but that. In 73 mag, Icom had to go and put ad for their IC2SRA
  255. 2 meter/25-9xxMhz handi-toy. Any reviews been done on this? Better yet,
  256. anybody own one. ANY comments? Please help! I don't want any more house

  272. A lot of my friends are experiencing intermod on the Kenwood 732.  Recently, we
  273. conducted a test using the Kenwood 732 & the Icom 2410H connected to the
  274. Diamond 5100m Antenna.  The Kenwood continued to have intermod where the Icom
  275. had none what so ever.  We found that this was the case in three different
  276. locations using varied antennas including a 5 element quad.
  277. I am not endorsing Icom over Kenwood, since both machines are relatively
  278. expensive.  By the way, the Alinco 570 which can be found for under $550.00 had
  279. no intermod at these locations when compared to the Kenwood 732.
  280. I would suggest that you do your homework and look around to see what other
  281. Hams are using in your neighborhood before you purchase a new or used rig.

  309. Love my Yaesu FT2400H.  I don't know what intermod is yet, have not heard
  310. it.  Using both a Larsen 1/4 and 5/8 whip on the Larsen mag mount (just not
  311. at the same time guys).
